Hi guys, I have a Buescher alto saxophone in possession and I have absolutely no concrete information on this beauty. The serial number is 84xxx and right under it is a fading "20A." Here are some pics. The pads are old and unaligned, therefore the sax isn't in proper playing condition. For gummy deposits, possibly best is acetone, but it will probably take the colour out of the pad, so perhaps alcohol as a poor contender. For mineral deposits, none of the above. Most modern pads have some degree of waterproofing (and sealing of any porosity - apart from kangaroo pads). When badly done it is sticky; when well done it is not stick, and it is very successful. The only big difference I can see between the S and S+ is the chamber. As far as sound, the S+ definitely has more body in the tone to my ears, mainly in the upper range and altissimo.
